[Advice] How to choose a good SEO agency.
What is SEO
SEO, or Search engine optimisation, is the process of making your site easy to find on a search engine. It is important because it affects the amount of traffic going to your webpage. The higher up your website appears for certain search terms (or keywords) the more traffic your website is likely to receive.
More traffic = more sales.
SEO Consultants offer their services as a way of optimising your page so that search engines (e.g Google, Yahoo, and Bing). can find it.
They do this through:
- On page optimisation
- Creating content
- Generating backlinks
How to choose a good SEO agency
There are thousands of SEO agencies out there.
Some are great. Some are not so good. Like any other company, you need to think carefully about who you go with, or if you need an SEO agency at all?
Ask yourself the following questions before deciding on an SEO Agency:
How did you find out about them?
If they sent you an email offering to get you to the first page of Google, then they are probably not the right agent for you.
Good SEO agents should be good at what they do, so check search engines to find the people who are ranking highly in your area.
What is their work like?
It is vital that you have a look at the quality of an SEO agents past work. Have a look at the other websites that they have worked on, does their content make sense, are they still ranking for keywords relevant to their industry or niche?
Does the company have case studies you can evaluate?
Do they get my company?
SEO revolves around content creation. That content is the voice of your company. It needs to be professionally written and reflect the tone of your organisation.
For SEO to work well, then you have to have someone creating content for you. For that content to have value, the person creating it needs to understand your business, your customers and the issues they face on a day to day basis.
How long is the payback period
That is, how long will it take to get results.
Anyone who promises a very short turnaround time is lying through their teeth. SEO is not instantaneous, it can't be switched on or off like search engine marketing (e.g. AdWords). Many SEO efforts take at least six months to get results.
Ask yourself if this is where your money should really be invested in the early stages of your business. Can you create the content yourself, and is SEO something that you can learn.
Many small businesses turn to marketing because they need customers. SEO can help with that, so can marketing and advertising. SEO generally takes a long time to pay off, Advertising and Marketing have a shorter turnaround time, and in many cases help overall SEO efforts.
SEO is also one of the easier digital marketing concepts to grasp, and learning what it to do SEO the right way will help your business in the long run.
